Dr. Robert C. Bauman
Robert C. Bauman has been providing patients with quality eye exams and vision care for almost 30 years. Licensed by the Board of Examiners in Optometry for the States of Vermont, Connecticut, and California, he is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Optometric Associations of both Vermont & Connecticut.
Dr. Bauman attended the State University of New York School of Optometry and earned his Doctor of Optometry in 1977. After completing his clinical training at the University Optometric Center in New York City, he moved to Connecticut and established a private practice. Starting with a single office, Dr. Bauman established a reputation for quality care. He expanded his practice to include four separate offices serving over 1,500 patients per month.
With a staff of 58 optometrists, opticians, technicians, administrative and office personnel, Dr. Bauman was recognized as one of the country’s most successful independent eye care practitioners. He gained national recognition for his professional and practice management skills when his practice was featured in 20/20 Magazine.
In 2002, a national eye health service corporation acquired Dr. Bauman’s practice. He served as Vice President of patient services until he left to fulfill a life-long dream of living in Vermont.
Dr. Bauman has extensive experience in contact lenses and has been awarded numerous United States Patents in the field of contact lens technology. He has successfully licensed patent rights for his innovations to several of America’s largest contact lens manufacturers and has served as a research and development consultant for leading contact lens makers. He has also been recognized for his pioneer work in Corneal Refractive Therapy, a non-surgical vision correction procedure.
Dr. Bauman has lectured throughout the United States on topics of interest in Optometry and Ophthalmology and has written numerous articles on many aspects of professional practice. He currently resides in Stowe, Vermont with his wife Barbara. They have two children.
Dr. Shannon Mitchell
A native of Idaho, Dr. Shannon Mitchell graduated cum laude in 2004 from Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. He attended Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon where he earned a Doctor of Optometry degree in May of 2010.
Prior to joining Dr. Bauman & Associates, Dr. Mitchell was responsible for providing comprehensive optometric eye care for patients of Kaiser Permanente, a primary HMO practice located in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Mitchell also completed clinical rotations in pediatric optometry at Pacific University College of Optometry; primary eye care with Coastal Eye Care, LLC, a private practice located in Long Beach, Washington; and ocular diseases at Vision Plus in Bellingham, Washington.
A recipient of numerous national scholarships and awards Dr. Mitchell has been recognized for academic excellence with invitations to the American Optometric Association-PAC Congressional Advocacy Conference, Alcon Continuing Professional Education Conference, and was named “Outstanding Student“ by the Pacific University Chapter of the American Optometric Student Association. He is a member of the Vermont Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, American Academy of Optometry, College of Optometrists in Vision Development and a lifetime member of the Psi Chi National Honor Society.
Dr. Mitchell has utilized his knowledge and training as a volunteer providing vision care for the homeless, free vision screenings for preschool students, career counseling for high school students and participation in free clinics offering primary and advanced eye care to needy patients throughout Central America. Dr. Mitchell will join Dr. Robert C. Bauman in providing a full range of eye health and vision care services ranging from comprehensive eye examinations and contact lenses, to the treatment of eye diseases, including glaucoma, and eye injuries. He lives in Stowe with his wife Molly and their three children.
Dr. Catherine Vishton
Dr. Vishton is a 2008 graduate of Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where she earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Bioengineering. She attended New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts where she received her Doctorate of Optometry in May of 2013.
Prior to joining Doctor Bauman & Associates, Dr. Vishton served as Doctor of Optometry with Westgate Vision of Brockton, Massachusetts, where she provided comprehensive and emergency optometric care to a diverse patient base. Dr. Vishton’s background includes identifying, treating and managing ocular disorders, including glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, as well as infections, injuries and other eye diseases. She has extensive experience in fitting spherical, toric and specialty contact lenses, including multi-focal lenses specifically designed to deliver both near and far vision to bifocal wearers. Her contact lens experience also extends to ortho-keratology and corneal refractive therapy, a nonsurgical eye treatment using specially designed contacts to gently reshape the curvature of the eye to improve vision and reduce or eliminate the need to wear eyeglasses.
In addition to her association with Westgate Vision, Dr. Vishton served with the New England Eye Institute of Boston, Massachusetts, where she specialized in diagnosing oculomotor, accommodative and binocular anomalies. During 2012 she provided primary eye care at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Vancouver, Washington.
Dr. Vishton was honored with a College of Optometrists in Vision Development Award for Excellence in 2013 while at the New England College Of Optometry. She was also awarded an American Academy of Optometry Student Fellowship in 2012. She is a member of the American Academy of Optometry; the American Optometric Association; College of Optometrists in Vision Development; Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity; and the National Optometric Student Association.
